A cataract is a clouding or fogging of the lens of the eyes. CLEAR LENS! CLEAR VISION! Cataract—-fog, cloud, confusion! Cataracts are just one of many factors that altar that coveted perfect 20/20 eye sight. Yet much like physical cataracts cloud our natural vision, spiritual cataracts cloud our spiritual vision.
They say age ain’t nothing but a number. But in the optic world, age is the number one risk factor for physical cataracts. As the years add up, so does the likelihood of damage to that delicate lens that helps keep vision clear. And yet we can’t forget trauma. Any blunt or penetrating injury to the eye that damages the lens can cause traumatic cataracts at any age.
Have you ever taken time to consider how the wears and tears of this thing called life over the accumulated years may have dulled you spiritual vision? To live life is to experience trauma in some way. Whether a direct hit or a penetrating blow, stress and distress often leave us in a fog.
Family dysfunction, violence, financial devastation, broken relationships, addiction and prejudices of all kind are just some of the many traumas that penetrate the lens of our perspective.
Traumas distort our understanding of who we are, who God is, God’s plan for our lives and our connections with those around us.
As we march into a whole new decade, take some time to reflect on how life and trauma have affected the state of your spiritual vision. The great thing about God is if you ask, he will surely show you and help you remove them. Acknowledgement and self-awareness are the first steps to any form of healing.
In Jesus Christ we have victory over the traumas of this life and the gift of eternal life in the next!
