  1. A few times I have heard the wise advise that we should intentionally try to meet God daily. In other words become attuned to where He is active, present, very much at work in our lives and the world around us despite the negativity that threatens to overshadow His glory and bring discouragement on our respective journeys.  So in my attempt to adhere to that wisdom and keep my eye on Jesus, I would love to share with you (whenever time allows, I’m not too lazy to write and for as long as I feel I should do it lol) an example of where I see God daily. Although God does such amazing things in our lives that it is so easy and don’t get me wrong appropriate to share our own testimonies, I hope to share more so about what I see God doing in and through the lives of others, even strangers. Or especially in the ways God meets me through random people. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES AS WELL AS I AM SURE IT WILL ENCOURAGE US ALL!

So for my first entry of “I see you Jesus…” I want to share what happened this morning on my subway ride to the city. With the cold bleak weather, squeezed in with the throngs of people bustling to work on the dreaded F line, I was less than pleased to have to head out today. Yet sitting right in front of me, my irritation peaked at having to stand for the 40 minute ride, was the most beautiful display of father and daughter love to behold. Right in front of my eyes I could see a young Hispanic man, probably no older than 23 years old, shower his little 2 yr old princess with love. He gazed at her lovingly as she slept, nuzzled her while she giggled with delight, held her protectively from the crowd and the jostling of the train and handled her like she was the most beautiful treasure. In a Western world where increasingly men are absent from the family and especially men of certain minority ethnic groups get such a bad label, it was so nice to see this young man prove the stereotypes wrong and just love and treasure his little girl. I’m sure life is not perfect for this family as we all have our challenges, but several of us smiled as we watched their exchange the whole ride.
Low and behold, I went to work with a better attitude and a smile on my face. Clearly, I saw God on that train this morning.
If you don’t get it yet, GOD IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE LOVE. His beauty is everywhere if we just take the time to perceive it. Yep, I see you Jesus…

It is never easy to lose a loved one. We miss the sound of their voice, the warmth of their embrace  and the very scent that defines them.  Yes even for those of us who trust and believe that heaven is our final destination, in our humanity, the grief of loss is a pain that is comparable to none.  A verse that is often used for comfort or is commonly used in times of grief reads “to be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). In other words, we can find some comfort in knowing that death takes us from the  perils, suffering and devastations of this world and brings us to an unimaginable place of joy and ecstasy, as we stand in the very presence of God.

But as I read this verse a few weeks ago, The Lord would show me a different perspective. We don’t have to wait to be literally absent from the body through death to be present with The Lord.  We can be present with The Lord in this life. How?  By choosing to be absent from the body of our “fleshly ways” and walking in the power of the Spirit.  Besides the literal meaning of what our bodies are, that being the physical aspect of ourselves, metaphorically the “body” or “flesh” biblically represents the aspects of ourselves that are earthly, sinful, carnal. It is through the medium of the sinful flesh that we lie, steal, cheat, hate, walk in pride, lust, anger and indulge in all things sinful.

When we have a carnal or fleshly mindset it separates us from God. How could this be? Simply because the carnal mind is enmity(hostile) against God; it is not subject to the law of God nor indeed can  be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God” (Romans 8:7-8, NKJV). So not only does the flesh or a carnal/fleshly mindset offend God, but it literally causes us to be hostile toward God. If not put in check, it pushes us away from the very Source of our life. That’s why every day, every minute, every second, we have to make the decision to be “absent from the body, so we can be present with Lord” even in this life. This however cannot not be done with sheer motivation or will-power. We alone, in our limited sinful human capacity cannot overcome the “flesh” on our own. We must accept the free gift of salvation through making Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Then God’s Holy Spirit, through our cooperation and submission, will transform us to become more like Christ. Just like Jesus willingly gave up his flesh to be crucified, through the power of the Holy Spirit fortifying and empowering our own spirit, we can crucify those fleshly ways. We can deaden that fleshly mindset that is hostile and contrary to God. We can begin to walk in holiness, righteousness and become all who God has called us to be. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we can have access to God’s presence and all the benefits that it entails–indescribable love, peace, joy, wisdom, guidance, supernatural power and everything we need to endure the trial of this life.

It will not happen overnight. I’m not saying it is alway comfortable. The flesh to be sure does not go down easily or submit willingly. It will fight submission to God. You will even fight yourself. You may still say an unkind word when the Spirit says to hold your peace; you may still lie sometimes when you know it is wrong; you may still feel some bitterness when God says to love. Transformation is a lifelong process. But know that through the limitless power of the Holy Spirit it can be done. You can adapt the mind of Christ. You can the enjoy the presence of His Presence in the present…..and yet still I rise.

With peace and blessings may you continue to rise always,

So today I saw there was a debate on my friend’s Facebook page (Cory Q)  about Oprah’s  stand on faith.  As a part of TD JAkes Megafest conference, a Christian-based family event that  took place late this week into this weekend, Oprah was a host and moderator during the segment called Oprah’s Life Class.   Cory Q’s question was why was Oprah speaking at a Christian event if she is not a Christian?  If you research Oprah, she does profess  to be a Christian but ” believes there are many more paths to God other than Christianity” per her own words.  So the 2 arguments:  Oprah is Christian because she said she is and after all she talks about how Jesus has helped her  vs. Oprah is not Christian because she promotes the thought that there  are several avenues  to God.

Cory Q’s response and defense from John 14:6 : ” Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.'(NASB).  His argument was that by Oprah saying there are other ways to God, she is in essence denouncing Jesus and calling him a liar.  Me not wanting to get stuck on Facebook, didn’t join the debate but instead read all of the input and comments from different sources and left it at that.  But I pretty much agreed with him in my head.  Later, as  I decided to take the day to rest and spend some time with God, in my reading the bible I came across the scripture again.

Jesus said,  “I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE…”

Now I am not here to judge or condemn Oprah by any means and in Cory Q’s defense he made it clear he wasn’t either.   Her faith walk is between her and God and if there is some confusion or some way the enemy is deceiving her, I pray she gets truth and clarity.  But when Jesus said he is the way, the truth and the life, he is saying he is the complete package for the journey to the best destination. If you imagine taking a road trip, Jesus said he is:

The Way= Road

The Truth=The Vehicle

The Life =The Engine

He is every component you need for the journey.  He is the road or path that directs you to the plan, purposes and will of God for your life; he is the truth or that vehicle  that shuttles you to righteousness and understanding of who God is and who we are in God; he is the life or that engine that sustains us in fullness and fulfillment  even as we are surrounded by the dead and decaying things of this world and we move forward to heaven and eternal life.  The “universe”, a “higher consciousness”  and all those other avenues floating out there that claim to be a pathway to God can never replace the blood sacrifice Jesus gave to die for our sins and reconcile us back to our heavenly Father.  The devil is very crafty about packaging things as  “spirituality” and making it look good.  Some of these false religions teach good disciplines and morals, but our good discipline by God’s standard of holiness will never be enough to get us to God. You have to have Jesus….the only WAY,  TRUTH and LIFE.  I’m sticking with Jesus alone….and yet still I rise…

With peace and blessings may you continue to rise,

Atencion! Atencion! Wake up and realize that we are in a constant war.  A war that is far more devastating than the natural or physical wars that have plagued human history.  Far more dangerous than bombs, grenades, mind-fields and semi-automatic weapons.  I am talking about spiritual warfare.   Whether you believe or accept it, the devil is out to get you.  But not just harass you, not just torment you—but literally to steal, kill and destroy you and everything in your life.   The bottom line is Satan and his kingdom are constantly trying to oppose anything relating to God and His kingdom.  And I mean everything!  Saved or unsaved, Christian or non-Christian, love God or hate Him Satan is still out to attack you.   Why?  Because we are all God’s creation although we are all not God’s children.  So even if you are not a child of God (i.e. someone who has accepted the gift of salvation and made Jesus Lord and Savior of your life), the mere fact that you exist and are a creation of God, makes you a target of Satan and his antics.  Even those who side with him.  Because in the end he blinds us to the fact that he is leading us away from eternal life with God and into eternal damnation and torment with him.

Thinking about all of this can really be overwhelming and even scary.  Why does it have to be like this?  If God is all powerful can’t He just end all of this sin and suffering and wipe out the devil now?  These questions have come to my mind and undoubtedly to the mind of many.  I personally don’t profess to know these answers and honestly I don’t believe anybody fully does.  There are just some secret things, some mysteries that we won’t understand in this life because we do not have the mind of God and His ways are so beyond our understanding.  Things  we will never know until we meet God and if He chooses to reveal these things to us.  Honestly, sometimes the way God operates and the ways of the world don’t always make sense to me.  But this is where faith and trust come in.  Trusting that God is in control and that in the span of eternity all things will be made right.  No more sickness, suffering, trials or difficulties.  That divine justice for the injustices and difficulties we suffer will be served if not now in this life, then later through the course of eternity and after the ending of this  corrupted world as we know it.  Since constantly complaining about it , arguing with or being angry with God will not change how He chooses to run His world (believe me we all have our times—we are after all human beings and God understands), why not take heed and use the tools God has equipped us with to navigate this war we are in and be victorious in the context of where we are now.

To win this war knowledge is of the upmost importance:

The devil attacks through 3 main vehicles:  through you of yourself, through other individuals (i.e. family, friends, coworkers, strangers) and through circumstances and situations. Many times these things work in conjunction or overlap.  The second thing is that he uses  the weapons of DOUBT, DECEPTION and DIVISION .  I hope to share more on these things in another post. But the amazing thing is that we have the authority to overcome every attack of the enemy.   That is, if you accept the Lord Jesus as your personal savior and become adopted into the family of God.

The bible says  after being  raised from the dead that:

“… Jesus came and spoke to them(the disciples), saying “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18)

As believers:

“Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7)

and furthermore

“…if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory (Romans 8:17, NIV)

So really what does all this mean?  It means that being an heir of God and a co-heir with Christ we stand to receive  the supernatural and substantial benefits of God’s kingdom now and through eternity.

To name a few we are:

1) Heirs to peace—peace in the midst of chaos, trials and seemingly impossible circumstances

-Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.       Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27, NKJV)

-You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in You (Isaiah 26:3, NKJV)

-“..the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7, NKJV)

2) Heirs to God’s  strength

-It is God who arms me with strength, And makes my way perfect (Psalm 18:32, NKJV)

-For You (God)  have armed me with strength for the battle (Psalm 18:30, NKJV)

3) Heirs to God’s unspeakable  joy

“….Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”  (Nehemiah 8:10, NKJV)

“ You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11, NKJV)

4) Heirs to the God’s impenetrable protection and defense

-I will say of the Lord , “He is my my refuge and my fortress

My God, in Him I will trust (Psalm 91:1, NKJV)

-“for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. (Deuteronomy 20:4, NKJV)

-No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.  I will not leave you nor forsake you (Joshua 1:5, NKJV)

5) Heirs to immortality and eternal life

-For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16, NKJV)

-Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life (John 5:24, NKJV)

This doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of the benefits of being a co-heir with Christ. However, in regards to spiritual warfare, it means that we have the power to live in victory and authority like Jesus did on earth and still does in the heavens.  That God’s very Spirit, the Holy Spirit  works in us and through us to overcome the devil and the demons that operate under him. It was under the teaching of Reverend Eugene Harris, while taking an intercessory prayer class at Greater Allen Cathedral that I really had a better understanding of these concepts as he presented them.  To summarize, remember God has established His kingdom.  And the Kingdom  of God is ever advancing, invincible and has ultimate power.  God and His kingdom reigns and rules over every aspect of existence:  the components of the universe, the earth,  the natural world and the spiritual realm including angels, Satan and demons.  When Christ died and was resurrected, he was given authority and power over God’s kingdom, which essentially means power over any and everything.  As children of God we are citizens of that great Kingdom.  Yet not just average citizens, but figures of authority because, ” God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly places… “(Ephesians 2:6).  In other words, as Reverend Eugene so clearly put it:  we have been established in government with Christ.  Just like any high-ranking citizen in any government seat, we have certain privileges, benefits, rights and jurisdictions in the Kingdom and when we claim jurisdiction for God’s kingdom, the old rules no longer apply.

For example when Columbus or other explorers of old landed on new land and planted the flag for Spain, England or whatever country they represented,  the old rules of that conquered land no longer had application. The new land is now under the jurisdiction of the conquering country.  In the same way when we go representing the kingdom of God and establish jurisdiction, Satan and his demons are limited to and must submit to the laws of God kingdom.  Satan can do nothing without God’s allowance and demonic forces are limited to the rules and regulations of God’s kingdom.  Hence, in this fallen world, cancer wrecks bodies, people are lame and the blind can’t see. But when you walk with the power of God and take authority as a citizen of God’s kingdom those old rules no longer apply.  In the kingdom of God at our command and in our authority through the power of God, the blind see, the lame walk, cancer must die,  demons must flee and miraculous things  take place.  Jesus performed great signs, wonders and astounding miracles here on earth. Yet he tells us that “whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing and they will do greater things than these…” (John 14;12, NIV).  Imagine we have the power to do greater things than Jesus did.  Now that’s astounding and maybe even hard to believe. But believe it!   He has given us “authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy…” (Luke 10:19, NKJV)

So beloved, take authority over depression, sickness, debt, anxiety, distractions.  Tear down everything that dares to oppose God’s will for your life.  Arise in God’s power! Arise in  your authority! Arise as the royalty you are and as a child of the Most High!

Because Jesus rose in power on the third day….and yet still I rise.

With peace and blessings may you continue to rise,

So low and behold….here I am doing my very first blog!  It seems surreal–ok let me be honest and say it is just unbelievable to me.  Sure blogging seems to be the “thing” to do these days.  It seems people are blogging about everything:  politics, music, art, religion, their business, my business, your business.  You name it, somebody is blogging about it.  Giving their viewpoint, experience, expertise or opinion.  But  those of you who know me well know this is definitely not me.    I am one of the most anti-technological ( is that a word?)  people out there.  I was the last in my group of college friends when email first came out; I dragged my feet forever before I finally signed up with Facebook; I was ridiculed just 2 weeks ago for saying number sign instead of hashtag when someone was showing me twitter.  You get my drift?  Just totally behind on these types of things.

Well when you walk with God let me tell you, He often yanks you out of your comfort zone and you find you are doing things you never thought you would do.  The Lord has been nagging me about this blog for a few weeks.  Yes I said nagging because every time I would try to push it to the back of my mind for later, it kept coming.  I didn’t even say anything about it to my family, my good girlfriends, no one.  I was terrified! This couldn’t be you God! Really?  But let me tell you how I know this is God.  Because there is no way that Tanesha of herself, in her own mind, in her own imagination  would ever dream up doing this.  Why?  Because blogging was never a dream or a goal of mine.  Yet here I am.   I literally had to just get up right at this moment and do this before I convinced myself once again of all the reasons not to do it.

That being said, I will simply be blogging about my life, my journey, my experiences,  my thoughts.   So in essence  anything–childhood, life lessons, relationships, medicine, growth, etc. But ultimately because God is my life and Jesus Christ is my life source they have to be at the center of it all. They will certainly be making regular appearances.    This, as is everything in my life is all for God’s glory.

So at the risk of not making this too long I will end here.  Lord I don’t even know how long a blog is suppose to be or how often I should blog.  Is there blogging etiquette? Oh well, as I step out in faith I will learn as I go and the Lord leads.   And believe me this is a huge leap for me. Thank you in advance for all your much needed prayers and support.

Stay tuned for next time when I talk  about the name of the blog  and how I finally took the step to go forward.    And yet still I rise……..
